Barton Road 50th Anniversary of the Water Treatment Plant

Roseville received top honors in a one-time special events category at the 2022 California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) conference for our 50th-anniversary celebration of the Barton Road Water Treatment Plant.

In 1971, Roseville welcomed its first surface water treatment plant. Having a water treatment plant come online was necessary following a landmark agreement Roseville signed to receive water from the federal government. On October 14, 2021, Roseville hosted a special event to commemorate 50 years of water excellence. Although the hope was to have a public-facing event, continuing COVID protocols meant a celebration could occur, but it had to be internally focused.

Despite having an internally focused event, we were still able to celebrate through digital communications to help pay tribute to this vital community milestone.

To help create a rich experience, staff obtained historical documentation from local archives to help weave Roseville’s water history dating back to the early 1900s. Photos, news clippings, and more were used to develop a photo essay to support the narrative of water reliability both now and then.

Please take a look at the supplemental material that showcases our event brand, social and digital media impact, and photos at the event.
